What's new with Ashleigh?

This weekend, I did something drastic. I decided to eliminate coffee from my life.

Some of you may not realize that there is normally more caffeine than hemoglobin in my bloodstream. My poison of choice is usually soda, specifically diet cola or diet Dr. Pepper. But lattes are a close second. Especially a hot one on a cold day like today. Of course, I will never turn down a good cup of black coffee, either.

So, if I love caffeine so much, why cut it out? There is no simple reason. Despite loving my coffee, I've always been sensitive to caffeine. After eating a lot of foods that make me ill last week, I decided it was time for a change. So I cut out almost all the foods to which I am sensitive. (In the interest of not over-restricting my diet, I left one or two foods in my diet ... for now.)

Believe it or not, this is not the first time I have done this. When I was pregnant with my oldest, I cut out caffeine for ten months. When I was pregnant with #3, I went full vegan. (I can't remember if I had caffeine during that pregnancy. With two precocious preschoolers running around, I'm guessing I did.) Unfortunately, I love most of the foods that make me sick, so they're hard for me to give up.

Many years ago, I began a list of foods I love that don't love me back. I've added them below.

How about you? What foods do you love that just don't love you back? Have you found any good substitutes?

  1. The first food on my list was Creme Brulee. Closely followed by fettuchini alfredo.
And I love egg sandwiches. Giving up eggs was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but they give me such migraines. Thankfully, I've discovered "Just Egg" (I think that's the name) which is actually a plant-based egg substitute. It has been great to eat omelets again.
