What's new with Ashleigh?

I don't know about you, but in my family, we have many traditions once we enter the holiday season. As I mentioned last week, one tradition is to get our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. After we decorate it, our family elf appears. We have a very well-behaved elf that simply changes location every day. He never misbehaves. (I cannot say the same about the one at my mother's house.)

This usually kick-starts our holiday season. Years ago, probably before I had kids, I bought an advent calendar box. Each year, we put some candy in it, but over the years we've added more tradtions. We have a Jesse tree, and each day is another ornament. (There are online videos explaining the significance of each ornament. We watch those while we do our tree.)

A couple of years ago, I found a cute nativity clipart. I enlarged it to take up four sheets of paper, printed it on sticker paper, and cut each page into 25 boxes. Each day, there are four stickers in the advent box (labeled 1 to 100) and the kids must match the puzzle piece to the poster. On Christmas day, the four stickers will be baby Jesus. Just another way we prepare for Christmas.

We have many more traditions. I will be posting more about them over the course of the week. If you don't receive my daily emails, feel free to follow the conversation on Bluesky, Facebook, or Instagram.

In the meantime,
What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?

Choose Your Own Path Stories

I apologize for not continuing this story. Truth be told, only one person voted which path to take. Combined with all the holiday preparations, I decided wait until the new year before resuming this story.

The O.C.D. Elf
an Obsessive Christmas Elf-ish adventure

Every Christmas, Gregory primps bows on boxes ready for Santa's post-haste delivery. He might just be a tiny bit obsessed over making every ribbon and every bow perfect. He's so obsessed with perfect bows that the other elves gave him a box of pre-made bows as a secret santa gift. Gregory promises he will never use the bows. He's always working with ribbons that never run out, and he always stays at the pole.

But this year, The O.C.D. Elf is coming along for the Christmas present run. And as a last minute emergency pack, he grabs the box of pre-made bows...
